TruBiotics Review – Some Unbiased Thoughts (2023)

TruBiotics is a probiotic which claims to help improve the immune system and digestive health.

I decided to try it after reading several positive reviews and will share my own experience in this blog post.

I used my years of knowledge on probiotics and nutrition to do some research and tests.

I will also be reviewing two interesting studies on the two probiotic strains present in TruBiotic's.

What Is TruBiotics?

Trubiotics-Probiotic-Box-Kitchen

TruBiotics claims to improve overall immune system by balancing the good bacteria in our microbiome. It uses 2 of the most commonly used strains that have clinical studies behind them but not always carried outin humans.

TruBiotics comes in a TruPreserve™ bottle, which has been specially designed to keep the bacteria viable until the expiry date without any need for refrigeration. Each bottle contains 30 pills which have been manufactured in Denmark using state of the art technology and are worth 1 month’s supply.

A single bottle costs around $14.99 to $20 depending on the place where you buy as prices vary across retailers, which sell TruBiotics such as Amazon, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Rite Aid, etc.

The refund policy also depends on the retailer as the company doesn’t seem to have any information about refund policy or guarantee on their official website. (no affiliate link)

TruBiotics Ingredients

TruBiotics contains the following Probiotic Bacteria at 2 Billion CFU's:

Trubiotics-Ingredients-Label

Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5®

This 2021 study from the Thunnicha Ondee, Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Medicine in Thailand was published in the peer-reviewed Current Developments in Nutrition journal in March 2021.

They claimed that Lactobacillus acidophilus LA5 was a "potent lactic-acid" bacteria that had previously been successful in attenuating obesity through its gut modulating effects.

This study tested that claim again by feeding mice a high-fat diet a long with 1 million CFU of the L. Acidophilus bacteria daily for 8 weeks and also mice fed a high-fat diet without the probiotic bacteria.

The results of the study showed that the mice had improved gut permeability, and weight loss plus a decrease in gram-negative Bacteroidetes & increased gram-positive Firmicutes bacteria. It's thought this was because of gut dysbiosis attenuation.

Bifidobacterium animalis BB-12®

Another 2021 study from China was published in the Frontiers In Nutrition also looking at the weight loss effects of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12 but this time in rats.

One group of rats was fed a normal diet, another fed a high-fat diet, and then the third group was fed a high-fat diet along with the BB-12 probiotic bacteria. Fecal samples were then taken for analysis.

The first interesting change was that normal diets had a microbiota high in gram-negative Prevotella bacteria and HFD's induced Akkermansia dominant bacteria. The BB-12 rats had decreased Clostridium, Blautia, and Bacteroides bacteria at the 3-week mark whilst increasing & maintaining Prevotella bacteria.

Short-chain fatty acid bacteria, Eubacterium & Parabacteroides then increased at 4 to 8 weeks. The study claimed that results showed that the bacteria was successful in ameliorating obesity through the gut microbiota but it did take up to 8-weeks.

  • Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose.
  • Sodium Ascorbate.
  • Inositol.
  • Magnesium Stearate.
  • Sodium Glutamate.
  • Titanium Dioxide.
  • Yeast Extract.

It's 2 proprietary strains are among the most popular probiotic strains used in the world and the other ingredients may also have some benefits. One of the negatives is that TruBiotics contains a somewhat low CFU count of 2 billion per tablet.

TruBiotics Side Effects

TruBiotics contains milk and yeast, which are not commonly used in probiotics as they may complicate the things in patients who have yeast allergy or are sensitive to lactose

If you have any allergies check with your Doctor first before taking TruBiotics. I am not a Doctor.

Some users also complain of mild digestive issues like bloating, gas & diarrhea after taking TruBiotics, which is a common side effect with almost all probiotics if you are taking them for the first time.

In most cases, the this goes away after your gut adjusts to the probiotic bacteria. However, if you face severe pain or any other issue even after 4-5 days, then it'd be a good idea to discontinue the use of TruBiotics and contact your Doctor asap.

Trubiotics Reviews

Trubiotics currently have a 4.7 out of 5 star rating from over 990+ verified customer reviews on Amazon and this seems to insinuate that the probiotic works well.

Pharmboy noticed an improvement with their constipation.

Pharmboy says in his review that TruBiotics helped him deal with his constipation problem, and this worked for him after he has tried several other probiotics without any result.

Vicki who had a verified purchase left a 1-star review in July 2019 claiming that she loves Tru Biotics and that in the past she had bought the probiotic from Walmart.

Her experience on Amazon however was terrible with the pill bottle arriving without the box and the seal looking it may have been opened.

Trubiotics Or Fermented Foods?

Fermented foods and TruBiotics have their own unique advantages and disadvantages when it comes to price and probiotic efficacy.

Fermented foods, such as kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, and yogurt, can be a more affordable option compared to TruBiotics, especially if you make them at home.

Fermented foods also provide a wide range of probiotic strains that TruBiotics may not have, which can contribute to a healthier and more diverse microbiome.

On the other hand, TruBiotics offers a more convenient and consistent way to supplement your diet with specific strains of probiotics, especially if you have a busy lifestyle and can't make your own fermented foods.

Additionally, TruBiotics has been formulated with strains that have clinical studies behind them and have been shown to have health benefits.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, TruBiotics is suitable for someone who is suffering from mild stomach issues and is not allergic to milk or yeast.

TruBiotics is not my number 1 recommendation as there are several more potent Probiotics out there that can help those who want to improve their digestive tract health.

Still, the CFU count may hinder the effectiveness of TruBiotics as most other probiotics have much higher CFU count in the range of 5 to 50 billion CFU's per tablet.

TruBiotics doesn’t seem to have any severe side effects as the number of people who suffered from side effects is very low, but in some cases, it worsened the stomach issues.
