3 Bacillus Clausii Health Benefits: Gastrointestinal, Antimicrobial and Immune
Bacillus Clausii has shown efficacy in alleviating symptoms of acute diarrhea, potentially inhibiting toxins produced by Clostridium difficile, and modulating the cytokine pattern in allergic rhinitis subjects.
These findings suggest that Bacillus Clausii could be a valuable option for managing gastrointestinal disorders, protecting against harmful bacteria, and aiding in immune regulation.
Bacillus Clausii is a soil based, gram-positive, rod shaped, spore-forming bacteria that is commonly used in probiotic supplements like spores suspension.
1. Alleviaties Acute Diarrhea
Acute diarrhea refers to a sudden onset of loose or watery bowel movements that lasts for a short duration, usually less than two weeks, and is commonly caused by viral or bacterial infections, food poisoning, or medication side effects.
A 2013 clinical trial published in the Beneficial Microbes Peer-reviewed journal found that Bacillus Clausii Strain UBBC 07 may be effective in alleviating the symptoms of acute diarrhea.
The results showed that the duration and frequency of diarrhea were significantly reduced, as was abdominal pain and the consistency of stools. No adverse effects were observed during the treatment suggesting that B. clausii probiotics may be a potential treatment option for those suffering from acute diarrhea.
2. Protective Effects Against C. Diff
Clostridium difficile (C. Diff) is a bad bacteria that can cause severe intestinal infection, often occurring as a result of antibiotic use, and is characterized by symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and inflammation of the colon.
A 2016 study published in the Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Peer-reviewed journal found that secreted compounds from the good probiotic bacteria Bacillus clausii strain O/C could potentially inhibit the cytotoxic effects of toxins produced by Clostridium difficile and Bacillus cereus.
The study carried out on vero cells also identified a secreted serine protease in B. clausii probiotics that is responsible for its protective effects but the study did no show it could eradicate C. Diff infection in humans.
3. Manages Allergic Rhinitis
Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, is a common allergic condition characterized by inflammation of the nasal passages, sneezing, itching, and a runny or congested nose, triggered by an immune response to specific allergens such as pollen, dust mites.
A 2005 study published in the European Annals of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that Bacillus clausii can modulate the cytokine pattern in allergic subjects. The study included 10 subjects with allergic rhinitis who were given B. clausii probiotic spores for four weeks.
The results showed that B. clausii treatment significantly reduced IL-4 levels and increased levels of IFN-gamma, TGF-beta, and IL-10. These findings suggest that B. clausii at 2 billion CFU could have immunomodulatory effects in allergic rhinitis subjects and that it could be useful in the management of allergic rhinitis not but as a treatment.
Is Bacillus Clausii Safe?
Yes, Bacillus Claussi is safe for most people since in all of the studies evaluated in this blog post, no adverse side effects were reported in the healthy individuals.
It is common for probiotics to cause initial side effects such as bloating and gas, but these usually pass after a few days or weeks of taking the probiotic once your microbiome adjusts.
Those with compromised immune systems or chronic illnesses should consult with their healthcare provider before taking Bacillus clausii or any other probiotic.
Bacillus Clausii is not safe for immunocompetent infants.
Can Bacillus Clausii Cause Bacteraemia?
Bacillus Clausii can cause Bacteraemia in rare cases. Bacteraemia is the presence of bacteria in the bloodstream, usually resulting from an infection in another part of the body and potentially leading to systemic complications.
A 2021 report published in the Journal of Medical Case Reports detailed a case of a 17-month-old immunocompetent child who developed a prolonged infection after taking B. clausii probiotics for a brief period of time.
As well as that, it also identified seven other cases of prolonged B. clausii bacteraemia in the literature, all of which occurred in patients with underlying co-morbidities.
These findings highlight the need for fist consulting with your doctor before taking B. clausii probiotics as only they will know your full medical history.
What Is Bacillus Bacillus Clausii Spores Suspension?
Bacillus clausii spores suspension is a probiotic formulation that is used to treat various digestive system disorders, including diarrhea, constipation, gastric ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn's disease, and colitis. It is manufactured by Unique Biotech an Indian company that specializes in creating Probiotics.
What Is The Best Time To Take Bacillus Clausii?
Take Bacillus Clausii at least 2 hours after or before taking antibiotics. The best time to take Bacillus Clausii can be suggested by your Doctor and this may depend on several factors like age, gender, weight and more.
Should You Refrigerate Bacillus Clausi?
You shouldn't refrigerate Bacillus Clausii probiotics provided you store the bacteria in a room temperature not exceeding 30c / 86f because the strain is shelf stable. Bacillus Clausii has a tolerance to heat according to research titled "Current Progress and Future Perspectives on the Use of Bacillus clausii"
